Albino Luciani = John Paul I`
`
`
The lion stands for his atheist father Giovanni Paulo Luciani.
The three stars represent the attributes his father built into him: Compassion, Courage and Change.
The six mounds in the foreground represent the six Italian peaks for which he held the speed record when elected a bishop in 1958. He set a speed record for one of Italy's most diffilcult peaks six months before his unwitnessed death.

"A monumental work of twentieth century capitalism as it was jointly embraced by the Vatican and the United States and those caught up in it. Top-shelf Vatican-CIA intrigue."

back cover text
When elected, not much was known of him. Based on the few bits which had reached outside Italy, the world press tabbed him ‘a moderate with an open mind to changing doctrine in those cases it places unfair restraints on the lives of innocent people.’
Like the times he ordered priests to melt down their gold crucifixes - chalices to build an orphange, to the times he had been caught baptizing born-out-of-wedlock children, to the times he challenged the Church’s ban on contraception, to the times he ordered hospitals to admit partners of homosexuals into intensive care units, to that time, just a month before his election, in defiance of a papal decree, he courageously defended the world’s first artificially inseminated child, to that time just a week before he died when questioned on the possibility of women ordination, "According to tales told by ancient men, God is the Father. Yet, according to what we really know, God is the Mother."
One has the most prolific message of his ministry, “We have made of sex the greatest of sins, whereas, in itself, it is nothing more than human nature and not a sin at all.”
‘Murder in the Vatican’ includes the only Vatican-uncensored biography of this man who as a bishop sanctioned gay unions and lobbied in Parliament to make it possible for gay couples to parent children in Italy ten years before interracial marriage was made legal in the United States.
In 1978, driven by Paul VI’s encyclicals 'Populorum Progressio' and 'Liberation Theology,' there were two fronts on which the CIA was faced by communism as a free democratic society—Italy and Central America. If Italy fell to communism, all of Europe would surely follow. If Central America fell to communism, all of Latin America would surely follow.
It was in these parts of the world communism was raising its head as the will of the people that was so extraordinarily dangerous to the United States and its capitalistic allies.
Henry Kissinger sounded the alarm, “Domination by Moscow is not the issue. Communist control of Italy and Central America is the issue. It would have terrible consequences for the United States and it is the number one threat to its national security.”
On the afternoon of March 13, 1978, fifteen men sat around a table in a sidewalk café in a mountain village in northern Italy. In casual clothes, they went unnoticed, though one was the reigning Pontiff, and another Aldo Moro, and the others ranking cardinals of poverty regions of the world who comprised the leadership of the Marxist movement in the Church and the western world. They left at four o’clock and Aldo reserved the table “for this time next year.”
` On March 13, 1979, Cardinals Benelli and Felici decided not to travel to Vittorio Veneto that day. After all, all the others were dead. They, themselves, unaware of their impending doom, were, too, as good as dead.¹
Insofar as 'Murder in the Vatican' presents compelling evidence linking prominent Italian and American statesmen to the murders of Aldo Moro, Paul VI, John Paul I and other leaders of the Marxist movement in the free world, the author reminds the reader, it was the sworn duty of these men, imposed upon them by the laws of their nations, to head off what they viewed as a dangerous slide to the left.

Unlike some Itailian newspapers which went so far as to label him a 'radical progressive,' most American newspapers tabbed him 'a moderate with an open mind to changing doctrine in those cases it inflicts an unfair burden upon the lives of innocent people' as demonstrated by the first of a six point program outlined in his chat in the Sistine Chapel with the cardinals who had elected him on August 27, 1978.
`
"We must gather up the courage that is within us and set aside the preferences that have been built into us by our Christian forefathers. Together we will muster the strength to lift those restraints unfairly placed upon the everyday lives of so many innocent people by doctrine... for God-given human life is infinitely more precious than is man-made doctrine.” ³

Yet, how is it possible the same constituency of cardinals elected a liberal in one election and just two months later made a complete about face and elected a fixed conservative?

¹ 'Murder in the Vatican' covers the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of each of these fifteen men. Three other cardinals died in 1978-79. To the best the author has been able to determine they died of natural causes.
`
² 'Murder in the Vatican' contains scores of photos and newspaper clippings for those who have to see it to believe it. A few of the images on this website are obscured because of the low resolution of the site. They are of pristine definition in the book.
